Silk DSI Silk
DSI Silk Braided Sutures are nonabsorbable, sterile, non-mutagenic surgical sutures, composed of natural proteinaceous silk fibers called fibroin. It is a braided, black dyed, coated suture. The braided sutures are coated uniformly with silicone mixture to reduce capillarity and to increase surface lubricity, which enhances handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue, and knot run-down properties. DSI Surgical silk is derived from silkworm species Bombyx mori of the family Bombycidae, the larva of which spins silk to weave its cocoon.  Silk is a naturally occurring organic substance and induces only a minimal host inflammatory response. The unique manufacturing process, from braiding to coating, gives the suture superior softness and compliance for maximum surgical handling. The proprietary coating process provides smooth flow through tissue while maintaining optimal knot security. DSI Silk Braided Sutures is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological procedures. One of the greater advantages of DSI Silk Braided Sutures is that they are made non-capillary in order to withstand the action of body fluids and moisture. The strength of the sutures varies according to their size, which can be determined by a uniformly applied number. For example, a 4-0 suture is more delicate,  but the 2-0 suture has more strength, so it is very important to choose the right for every procedure. DSI Silk Braided Sutures are used in skin wound closure, or after surgical operations on the outside of the body, where the sutures can be removed after a few weeks. It also can be used in veterinary, and have great effectiveness. Very popular among veterinarians all over the world. DSI Silk Braided Sutures are used in dentistry for any kind of surgical procedures, thanks to its strength it has a high demand on the market, among dentistry surgeons.

Distinctive Characteristics of DSI Silk Sutures:
• Great strength, tension maintained over time
• Minimal tissue reactivity.
• Exceptional for skin closures.
• Flexible, easy to handle and tie
• Excellent histocompatibility

DSI takes extreme caution in everything that has to be sterile for the patient’s, that is why DSI Nylon monofilament sutures are meet a "Grade A" sterile standards. The local zone for high-risk operations, filling zone, stopper bowls. such conditions are provided by a laminar airflow workstation. Laminar airflow systems provide a homogeneous airspeed in a range of 0.36 – 0.54 m/s (guidance value) at the working position in open cleanroom applications. The maintenance of laminarity is demonstrated and validated. The final stage of sterilization is made with radiology and the gamma-ray sterilization process takes up to one month and never has to be interrupted. DSI Nylon monofilament is licensed with CE and ISO. Those licenses are our promise that we meet the highest world's standards, and have the highest quality material. Every pack has a double sterile layer and laid in an aluminum foil, that protects the sutures. It comes with a needle attached, and ready to use.
