DSI Polydioxanone (PDO/PDS) Sutures an absorbable monofilament suture, composed of a synthetic homopolymer of polyester, poly (p-dioxanone).
It has the longest period of wound support, as compared to other absorbable sutures while offering superior tensile strength. The suture is essentially absorbed within 180 days.
PDS absorb by simple hydrolytic mechanism and suture absorption is predictable, with up to 50 days of wound support: Polydioxanone sutures retain about 70% of the initial tensile strength after 2 weeks, 50% of the initial tensile strength after 4 weeks and 25% after 6 weeks of implantation.
DSI needles are made of 300-series surgical steel alloy and made as slim as possible without compromising strength, stable in the grasp of a needle holder, able to carry suture material through tissue with minimal trauma.
DSI needles are laser-sharpened, rigid to resist bending, yet ductile to resist breaking, sterile, and corrosion-resistant.
